On 5 October we invited all of our MVA-students to join us for the our annual MVA Welcome Dinner… and there they were: the “old” and the “new” XD-intake all comfortably united over pizza and wine. A very pleasant evening.
Looking forward to a very exciting and inspiring new academic year 2012/13!
We are very happy and proud that a variation of MVA-student Agnes Lee’s semester project ‘Taste the Church’ was accepted as entry for the Setouchi Art Triennale 2013 in Japan earlier this summer.
While her original project was about creating an ice cream that evokes the experience of attending Catholic Church, this new proposal now will try to explore a taste of Buddhism.
If you are interested: see you in Shodoshima in July 2013!
If you want to join the MVA (Experience Design) of the Academy of Visual Arts and be part of a young and talented team of XD-practitioners from diverse backgrounds, you still have the chance to enrol into our programme for the academic year 2012/13 until 30 June 2012.

To celebrate the completion of the first year of the first cohort of the MVA (Experience Design) the XD-group went out for dinner in Kwun Tong, and afterwards hang out in Leecat’s studio, where – apart from indulging in Streetfighter II – we took various group and individual photos.
So long, until next term…
Yesterday afternoon AVA held a briefing for applicants for the next intake of the MVA in September 2012 in CVA Building, and a good number of the Experience Design-group attended to answer any potential questions. The particular focus of this briefing was on Experience Design and Utopics, and it appeared that there was broad interest in these areas amongst the participants.

Our third leg of explorations into themed parks and environments took us today to Evergreen Resort in Shenzhen, China. While most members of the Experience Design-group had never even heard of this park before it turned out to be a truly special experience: entertaining, educational, and team-building.
Highly recommended to go!
For for information look at Evergreen’s website.
Today the Experience Design-group went on a site visit to Hong Kong Disneyland. Thanks to courtesy tickets from Hong Kong Disney Corporation we could spend a whole day exploring the art of Disney Imagineering – including the brand new Toy Story Land.
Hong Kong Disneyland’s homepage is here.
The Experience Design-group of AVA’s Master of Visual Arts-programme today spent a day out on Yim Tin Tsai, a small island off the coast of Sai Kung. Yim Tin Tsai is reknown for is tradition of ‘salt farming’, and is a centre of Catholicism in the region, which articulates through the enchanting St. Joseph’s Church that is the core of the today abandoned Hakka-village on the island.

AVA is happy and proud to welcome its first cohort of students into the newly revised MVA-programme with the three new concentrations in Arts Administration, Studio Arts & Extended Media, and Experience Design. And obviously such special occurence requires a special pizza dinner set in AVA’s campus gallery!
