From Hearing to Listening

by Vicky Lam

by Vicky Lam

Humans are visual creatures, sometimes we over-interpret the world of vision, and put taste, smell, touch and sound into second place. If we did – for once – disregard vision, we may get another perspective of the world. Without sight, the other senses will be more intense. Sound for example, due to its spatial and temporal nature, gives wide room for people’s imagination.

In my project, I would like to create an ‘illusionary sound walk’ experience, which provides space for city dwellers to re-discover the perception of time and space. I created seven sound clips to be listened to at particular moments of the day. By inviting people to re-listen, I would like the project to work as a metaphor to alter the experience of sound.
